Το εθνικιστικό τρίπτυχο εκτουρκισμός - εξισλαμισμός - εκσυγχρονισμός στην ποίηση του Ζιγιά Γκιολάλπ του Αριστοτέλη Μητράρα
Kατά τον ΙΘ΄ και τις αρχές του Κ΄ αιώνος σε απολυταρχικά καθεστώτα, όπως ήταν η Οθωμανική Αυτοκρατορία και ιδιαίτερα κατά την εποχή του σουλτάνου Άμπντουλ Χαμήντ με την τρομοκρατία της "καλώς προστατευόμενης επικρατείας", σύνηθες ήταν το φαινόμενο οι πολιτικές ιδέες και θεωρίες να βλέπουν το φως υπό τον μανδύα ενός λογοτεχνικού έργου.
Το είδος του γραπτού λόγου που καλούμε λογοτεχνία είναι πράγματι κατάλληλο για την έκφραση των συναισθημάτων ενός ανθρώπου, την αποτύπωση της συλλογικής συνειδήσεως ενός λαού και την διατύπωση ιδεολογικών τοποθετήσεων ενός λογίου. Γνωρίζοντας αυτές τις μοναδικές δυνατότητες που προσφέρει η λογοτεχνία, ο Ζιγιά Γκιοκάλπ προέβη σε ευρεία χρήση αυτού του είδους γραφής, ώστε να μετακενώσει τις ιδέες του στον Λαό της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας.
Καλός λογοτέχνης ο ίδιος κατόρθωσε δια του ευρέος λογοτεχνικού του έργου να διατυπώσει την ιδεολογία του τουρκικού εθνικισμού επί της οποίας, εν πολλοίς, επορεύθη το τουρκικό κράτος.
Στο έργο που ακολουθεί ο ειδικός στον Ζιγιά Γκιοκάλπ δρ. Αριστοτέλης Μητράρας μας εκθέτει την ιδεολογία του κορυφαίου αυτού τούρκου διανοητού σε όλους τους τομείς του πνεύματος, αφ' ου προηγουμένως μας έχει καταλλήλως προϊδεάσει για την ζωή και το έργο του, όπως και τις θέσεις του για την λογοτεχνία. Η μικρά εισαγωγή του στην εθνική λογοτεχνία της Τουρκίας κρίνεται επιτυχής.
Και με αυτό το έργο η παρούσα επιστημονική σειρά θεωρώ, ότι συμβάλλει στην καλύτερη κατανόηση της συγχρόνου τουρκικής πραγματικότητας.

Dear Professor Metraras,
Yesterday I received the package, which you sent me, containing the new edition of your dissertation, as well as the smaller but most interesting analysis of the poetry of Ziya Gokalp. They are beautifully published by Ekdoseis Papazese. I brought out the dissertation form which you had sent me two years ago and briefly compared the new printed edition with the form and content of the dissertation, and in the quiet early hours of the pre-dawn morning, scanned through your analysis of this poetic side of the great theoretician of the modern Turks, Gokalp. I am particularly interested in the nationalist / historically inspired poetry of the author. I had, at one time, followed through the modern Turkish press the regularity with which the various historical stages of the arrival in and settlement in Asia Minor were noted by journalists and were correspondingly celebrated.
As in my letter to you, of October 12, 2010, I once more congratulate you for your important and complex book on O Tourkikos ethnikismos tou Ziyia Gokalp kai o Kemalismos. It is a richly documented work, written with great care, it is inclusive of a rich body of original and also of secondary historical sources. It is further, important, for Greek readers as finally they have realized how important it is to know and to study the historical thoughts and actions of their neighbor. When I was invited to join the Philosophical School of the University of Athens, follow the great political crisis of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, one member of the faculty condemned me, in the official meeting of that faculty that I was an agent of the Turkish government, asserting that I was teaching in the University of Ankara at the time of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, July 1974. Of course that was not true but was done in order to prevent my “metaklesis”. Once formally appointed to that faculty I introduced the courses on the history of the Ottomans, of the Arabic Islam and of the Balkans. Indeed I bought, with faculty funds, the first body of works by Turkish scholars on history.
I know that with your knowledge, scholarship you will, effectively, introduce your students to the history of Turkey, and will endow them with a scholarly foundation to better evaluate the politics and culture of the Turks. Your major book so well written will be their proper guide into this important history.
My new updated version of The Decline of Medieval Hellenism in Asia Minor and I has now been published. I also have a copy of the small monograph, The Turkish State and History. Please let me know if you do not have these as I should be pleased to send you copies at your home address.
In closing I wish once more to thank you for your two new publications which will teach me much.
